Romans 5 and 6

July 4, 2018

Happy Fourth of July Awaken! I hope you are celebrating our nation's birthday with family and friends and remembering today the freedoms we have as Americans. Let freedom ring!!!

We continue (don't worry if you haven't...start today) our reading through Romans today with Chapters 5 and 6.

Romans 5

In verse two it says, "Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God." This verse summarizes the main idea of the chapter in simple yet profound text. We (the believers of Christ) have obtained the salvation of Christ through faith (belief) and our heirs of the grace (forgiveness) of God. Our hope is secure and our promise of Heaven sealed by the grace of God, obtained by our faith in Jesus Christ. SO MANY good (underline good) verses in this chapter. For those dealing with suffering and hardship, take hope in verses 3-5. For those weak and suffering in sin (which was all of us at one time and still those today dealing with addiction and sin) verses 6-11 speak of the sacrifice made by Christ to reconcile us from sin. Verses 12-21 speak of the sin of Adam and the effects of sin on all people. BUT praise be to God for the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ! Spend extra time reading and reflecting on verses 18-21. For where Adam fell short, God abounded greatly. Sin has nothing over the grace of God. As Christians, our sins are covered by the blood, by the grace of God. Jesus Christ conquered death for you and for me. Thank you Lord!

Romans 6

If you know the grace of God and have accepted then the free gift of salvation, how can you keep on sinning? Sin is a natural instinct, a curse of our weakened human form, but you are no longer yourself for you were bought at a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). Therefore, as the verse says in Corinthians, honor God with your bodies. Make every effort to keep yourselves from sinning and instead honor God. Romans 12:2, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind...". The old self is gone and the new (in Christ) lives through you. ALLOW God to lead your life. Turn over control to God (wave the white flag of self) and begin waving the flag of freedom through Christ. Verse 14, "14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." Accept that grace friends! Accept it and live in it! Lastly, each of us has a choice to make. We will either be slaves to sin or slaves to Christ. One is controlling, leaves you feeling worthless and defeated and the other is true freedom, restoration, and abounding love through grace. Accept Christ and turn from sin. Accept grace and turn to Christ. You much choose... (Romans 6:23) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen!

Man, such good reading today and such hope in Christ. Whatever you are dealing with friends, give it to God. Let go of any sin, any control you think you hold, and give your life to God. Let Him write your story! Let Him be the author and finisher of your faith.
